Top 10 April Fool's Day Jokes

In honor of tomorrow being April Fool's Day, we thought we would do our top ten based on April Fool's Day jokes. Here are a few that we came up with. Some are well known and others are not. Hope you enjoy them and try a few of the nice ones out on your family.

1. Cellophane on toilet seat - Not very funny when you are the one using the restroom.
2. Salt in sugar bowl - Not good for those with high-blood pressure.
3. Slip a rubber band over the sink sprayer handle so that it is stuck in the on position. Carefully aim nozzle so that it sprays out onto anybody who turns on the faucet. This is a good one.
4. Super-glue coins to a heavily trafficked sidewalk or driveway. It is fun to see how many people try and try and try to get it.
5. Fake mouse in freezer/fridge - This wouldn't work for us because we actually have real baby mice in our freezer to feed our snake.
6. Type letter to yourself stating that the vote went through and school is now going to be held all year long - no more summer vacation! Read to kids.
7. Paint husband’s toenails red while he’s sleeping.
8. Place a raisin in the top of toothpaste tube. Kids will think it’s a bug!
9. Wake kids up at 3:00 A.M. for school. Tell them it’s 7:00 A.M. Don’t say "April Fools" until they have had breakfast and gotten dressed for school! How many of us have done this to ourselves not on April Fool's Day.
10. In the middle of the night, switch children (carry them) into separate beds so they wake up in a siblings bed instead.

Spring Break Blues

Spring Break has come to a close and we are saddened that it went so quickly. We did however have a GREAT two week Spring Break! It was very productive and eventful. It started off with a nice day trip to Old Tucson Studios with our friends, the Haskins, and ended with a whole week spent in Grand Junction, Colorado with our families there. Sundy and the girls were also able to go to the Phoenix Zoo and spent time with lots of other friends. Of course we took lots of pictures of everything so we could share them with you but we went to download the pictures and the SD disk had issues and corrupted the picture files. We were unable to save them and boy were we sad that we could not share them with you all. Luckily we had blogged the Tucson pictures before we left.
While in Colorado, Sundy's mom taught her how to can. They canned 7 quarts of pork, 28 quarts of steak and 14 quarts of chicken. Sundy also learned how to make pear jam, which is Kiara and Katia's favorite! :-) Sundy made un-leavened bread (on accident) and worked in the shop with her mother. Meanwhile, Kiara and Katia played hard with cousins (Zane's kids and G.J.'s kids). Kiara especially loved Zane's new additions (two puppies: an Irish Setter and an Italian Greyhound.)
Scott spent his time between the McCallisters home and the DeGooyers home. He enjoyed attending church with his parents in Naturita where his father spoke. He also enjoyed going to work with his dad. Mom McCallister had a to-do list for Scott in exhange for all the meat mentioned above! :-) He sanded, stained and fixed a lot of the wood fixtures in their home. He also had time to hang out with Zane watching some basketball games, and attending a job fair at Mesa State.
During the trip, Sundy read "The Work and the Glory" outloud to her family. Both girls LOVED the book. It made for great discussions about church history during the long drive (10 hours).

Top 10 Favorite Kid CDs

I know this is usually posted at the beginning of the day but we are on vacation in Colorado and enjoying ourselves. Since we committed ourselves to posting each Tuesday, we are following through no matter what is going on in our lives. Today's top ten list is in honor of "Music In Our Schools Month."

1. The Learning Station “Tony Chestnut” - What’s more fun than pointing to different parts of your body with a really cool song about names! All the songs on the CD are fantastic
2. Jessica Harper “Hey Picasso” - Songs inspired by famous works of art. Not just for kids!!
3. Disney Greatest Volumes 1-3 - All the songs we love from Disney’s movies from Snow White to Tarzan! We like playing name that tune with these fun CDs!
4. Sandra Boynton’s “Philadelphia Chickens” - She’s not just a children’s author - her songs are FANTASTIC! We like her CD “Rhinocerous Tap” too!
5. John Lithgow’s “The Remarkable Farkle McBride” - John Lithgow is at the top of our favorite children’s singers! He not only sings fun songs, usually they are educational too! The title song introduces children to the different instruments of the orchestra in a really fun story/song!
6. School House Rock - Education and Music go hand in hand with this classic!
7. Heigh-Ho! Mozart! - Taking Disney tunes and putting them in the style of classical composers is so fun! Great music! Great learning tool!
8. Jim Gill “The Sneezing Song & Other Contagious Tunes” - We were lucky enough to see Jim Gill live in Las Vegas! “May There Always Be Sunshine” is a song that will please adults and children!
9. Primary Focus’ “Choices Count” - A great way to introduce the pillars of character to your children! They will always remember Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship, Trustworthiness, etc.
10. Bare Naked Ladies’ “Snack Time” - If you like the group, you’ll love this CD they made for their own kids! It’s funny! And it’s definitely still the same group we adults love!

One-on-One Time

We have been trying to spend more one-on-one time with our daughters over the last few months so we can get to know their interests and help them develop more talents. We have dedicated a few hours each month with each of them. Some months are better than others. The girls have their choice of doing whatever they want with that parent, whether it's window shopping, cooking, bike riding, walking or learning new things. They have really enjoyed it and so have we. Today we had time so we took advantage of it.

Katia loves cooking and baking so Sundy and she spent time in the kitchen learning how to make mint brownies. She even made them look all pretty.

They were delicious!

Kiara and Scott spent time making a music video about puppies. Kiara loves animals of course. We finally got a video to upload so you can see what they made. Kiara did it while Scott talked her through it. We all had a blast.

Top 10 Things that are Green

Well today is St. Patrick's Day so of course our top ten has to deal with GREEN. It is such an awesome color and there are so many great things that are GREEN but we couldn't put them all. So here are some of the things that we enjoy that are GREEN. Today is also Scott's sister's birthday. Happy Birthday Stacey! We love you!


1. New York Jets - J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets! Need we say more?
2. Scott, Sundy and Katia’s Scriptures - The word of God.
3. The Brazilian Flag - Scott’s mission alma mater. Brazil is very green too.
4. Scott’s High School Colors - Go Green River Wolves!
5. Money - We accept donations to the DeGooyer Life Fund. (LOL)
6. Pine Trees - We love the smell. It reminds us of camping and Christmas!
7. Plants - Scott maintains that plants have feelings so he constantly talks to them....
8. 7-Up - The un-cola. Good when your tummy is upset.
9. Avacados - Scott loves avacado shakes. Sundy loves them with miracle whip.

Day Trip to Old Tucson Studios

Here in Arizona there is so much to do within a reasonable driving distance. Matt and Lori wanted to go on a day trip so we all decided to go to the Old Tucson Studios. We left this morning around 8:00am and returned just before 8:00pm. Everyone had a great time! Old Tucson Studios is a place where many films and shows have been made. Some include "Little House on the Prarie," "The Three Amigos," many John Wayne films, some Clint Eastwood films, and many more. They had quite a few shows to watch, rides to ride, and tours to take. We did it all. Here are a few pictures we took.

Sundy's Favorite Part of Spring Break

To say Sundy loves reading is an understatement. It is one of her favorite things to do in her free time. She had barely been home a few seconds and already she had a book open. Now that spring break is here she is in heaven. Heaven help Scott, Kiara and Katia for the next two weeks. :o)

A Good Day For A Yard Sale

We decided to do a yard sale today. It was a beautiful morning with clear blue skies and no wind. We didn't have much advertisement so we were not expecting too much traffic. We had a fair amount though. We told the girls they could keep the money from the things they sold. They were excited and this week they went through their things, mostly stuffed animals, and found a good amount. They were able to get rid of quite a few stuffed animals at the yard sale. They actually made more money than we did. The best part of the whole ordeal was we did it as a family. It was fun to work together and enjoy the time sitting outside and talking. We still have a fair amount of stuff left over so we will try again another day down the road. We also have a few more boxes to go through to weed out any unwanted items.
